Guestbook for James A. McConaughey
sign guestbook

Jim and I grew up together on Adams Street. That was when you did play outside all day and night. We hung out and eventually went to high school together. He was a very kind person. He could be funny or serious then funny again. He was my buddy for many years. I may not talk to him for years then run in to him and it was just like yesterday. We had so much fun together and got into trouble together. Will miss his spirit and smiling face.

Oh Dee, words don't express how sorry I am for your loss. I want to give you a big hug however I'll be at work. Jim was a character! Always enjoyed being around him, always had fun and a big smile. Prayers with you and his family.

Jim was one of the first people I met as a sophomore at Central High. For the next ten years we were nearly constant companions both in La Crosse and Madison. Everyone knew of Jim's great sense of humor, energy and irreverent reverence toward people both high and mighty and humble. He was a friend to everyone. I feel honored to have become close enough to Jim that I also saw him cry, ponder and philosophize. He was much smarter than he let on but his kindness and sensitivity toward human dignity was well known. I cannot hear a David Bowie song without thinking of him. I loved the time I spent with Jim and our gang; Astrid Slungaard, Lynn Pinski, Sarah Arneson and Andrea Gundersen amongst many others. We all loved him and we, as well as everyone who knew him, felt Jim's love for us. My heart goes out to his wife, friends and the McConaughey family, who are still the only entire family I know to be kicked out of Del's! SlĂ inte! Until we meet again, friend.

I worked with Jim at Hillview. I was the receptionist there for several years. The one thing that stands out in my mind when I think about Jim was the gentle and loving way he would interact with the residents. I am so sorry for loss. Jenny

My condolences to Jim's family. I went to high school with Jim (Class of '72), and knew back then even that he was a special person. Affable and funny, he played the class clown at times, but underneath I always knew he was a kind and decent person. I saw him a few times later on, and he still retained that spirit. Hope he had a good life, and that your memories of him will continue to enrich your lives. kathleen.mcdowell@mto.com
