So sorry Karen. I knew Dick at La Crosse County Health Dept 1970s and Tom ran with him with UWL Fitness. I didn't really know in high school that you and I are Barstad/Berger relatives.

My sister Terry and husband Ken were life long friends of Dick and Karen. I loved the stories about him and counted myself lucky if I was able to see him when I was in town. A great guy and a legend. He will be missed.

I had the privilege of sharing truly wonderful adventures with Dic; backpacking, camping, fly fishing and laughing and listening to his (repetitive) wonderful stories around Wyoming Wind River wilderness campfires. Our fishing trips to Montana, Wyoming, Utah, Minnesota and Wisconsin were most memorable and some of the highlights of my life. Dick was a kind and gentle friend who greatly enhanced my life. I will be lonelier without him, but his gift of true friendship sustains me and will last forever.
