Guestbook for Bruce Walter Ranis
sign guestbook

Thank you for all your kind expressions about Bruce. We would have been married 54 years in October. We had a good shared life together probably because of all the people we had the privilege of knowing. Thank you again, God is good and I'm thankful to Him as well. I have so enjoyed by all your comments.

I have fond memories of Bruce. I worked in Early Childhood/ Special Education at Hamilton Elementary School in La Crosse years ago when Bruce drove school bus. The students and staff looked forward to the field trip to the Ranison’s Ice Cream and Candy Shop! You have my heartfelt sympathy. Terry

My sincere sympathy to Beverly and her family. Bruce was one of my favorite clients and I always enjoyed visiting with him and discussing many varied topics. His happy disposition always brightened my day.

My sincere sympathies to the family on behalf of the Gossfeld family (from 15th Street). Bruce and Beverly were long time friends of my parents, Armin and Phyllis, before they died. My sister now lives in the family household and I visit often from Milwaukee. I clearly remember going to Bruce's shop regularly as a kid, and was happy to still be able to purchase some New York ice cream there this past Christmas! Bruce will be greatly missed by all including Central's Alumni Association. ==GLENN GOSSFELD

Mrs. Ranis, I am so terribly sorry for your loss. Mr. Ranis was such a kind man just as you always have been. You may not remember me but I was in your 4th grade class at Franklin Grade School. I just want you to know that you are in my prayers and thoughts. God's blessings to you and your family. Sincerely, Ramona Ferris-Mendez

I remember Bruce from the early days of Shorty's and the Super Ice Cream. Our Mom was a short order cook for Shorty's and Bruce would spend time in the kitchen with her peeling potatoes and just talking. His very famous Mint Malteds got me through my wisdom teeth extractions and so many other hospital stays. The malt was always a very special treat. Our family sends our love and prayers to your family. He was a great man and person and will truly by missed by many.

We were Central classmates. Bruce was always affable, a true gentleman. Joe remembers the 4-H meetings at Bev's house. The ice cream shop was a landmark for us. Bruce's gentle ways will long be remembered.

You don't know me, but I would think you might be crossing the minds of many, many people today whom you do not know. But we "knew" Bruce because we loved Super Ice Cream and Ranison Ice Cream. This was a neighborhood pilgrimage for me and a dear friend of mine who walked there on our way home from the South Branch Library at least once a week. How lucky we were to grow up in a time and a place where a small, family business run by good people could flourish and Bruce was a huge part of that. Thanks to him, to all his family, for the joy he gave in this life and may find a return of all that joy now.

Bruce and I served on the board of directors for the Central High School Alumni Association for many years together. Bruce was always great to work with and had insight and ideas that were always good. My deepest sympathy to his family and friends.

I knew Bruce from the store day when he bought candy from Deluxe Dist. He would buy about all the penny candy I could get for him as well as candy bars but refused to buy snickers because he would not let them dictate that he had to buy 48 bars. Bruce frequently made me a malt gratis. His biggest coup was driving to Coke in Winona to get Coke in returnable bottles. Was always interesting to talk to. Sorry for your loss
