Lucille J. Ostrem, 90, of Viroqua, died Friday, January 20, 2017, at the Norseland Nursing Home, Westby. She was born on December 12, 1926, to Arthur and Mabel (Lindevig) Strangstalien. She graduated from Westby High School. She married LaVerne O. Ostrem, on February 9, 1945,at the Vang Lutheran Church. He preceded her in death on December 20, 2009.
Lucille was a professional court stenographer for Vernon County for over thirty five years, serving Judges, Gulbrandsen, Seiger, Bennett, Block and Rosborough. She was a longtime member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Viroqua, where she was involved in mission circle, the altar guild and the church women’s quilting group.
Married to La Verne, she had no choice but to be a fan of the Chicago Cubs, Green Bay Packers and the Wisconsin Badgers. She was an avid golfer and a very good bowler. She was an amazing cook, no one went hungry at Lucille’s house. The gathering of family and friends at the cottage at Hatfield was a source of great joy for her.
The family wants to express their appreciation for the loving care that was provided to their mother by the staff of the Norseland Nursing Home. She is survived by three daughters, Dianne (Dean) Dickinson, of La Crosse, Marla (Stewart) Peterson, of Onalaska, Monica (Michael) Peterson, of Middleton; by five grandchildren, Derek (Maria) Peterson, Ryan (Mary) Peterson, Marissa Dickinson, Ashley (Ryan) Kessenich and Tyler Dickinson, and by three great grandchildren, Avery, Nora and Christian Peterson.
Lucille was one of eleven children in a loving and devoted family. She is survived by Roger (Donna) Strangstalien, Arlene (John) Townsend, Dennis (Suzanne) Strangstalien, Larry (Rachel) Strangstalien and Gloria (Floyd) Storey, and a sister-in-law, Marie Strangstalien.
She was preceded in death by GordonStrangstalien, Beverly Jensen, VerlynStrangstalien, Dorothy Seivertson and Robert Strangstalien.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, at 11:00 A.M. at the Vang Lutheran Church. The Reverend Julie Wollman will officiate. Burial will be in the Bethel Church Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Wednesday from 9:30 A.M. until the services.
