Albert "Al" La Fond, 91, passed away on Thursday, February 9, 2017 at the Gundersen Health System in La Crosse. He was born on March 26, 1925 to Gertrude and Henry La Fond. He married Rosalie "Dolly" Gage on January 4, 1944 in La Crosse and together they celebrated 62 years of marriage.
Al served in the U.S. Navy during WWII in the Pacific and Atlantic from Jan. '43 to Nov. '45. He enjoyed the first Honor Flight to Washington D.C. Al worked at Trane Co. for over 30 years as an aluminum welder. He was well know in the area as a master welder who could repair almost anything with his extensive knowledge of metals. His skill was so "out of this world" that he welded on an Apollo Lunar Rover for NASA.
He is survived by three children; Diane (Mike) Pedersen of Sparta, David (Judith) La Fond of La Crosse, Daniel La Fond of Onalaska, six grandchildren; Jeff Pedersen, Lisa (Galen) Pankratz, Philip (Justine) La Fond, Melissa La Fond, Daniel (Joan) La Fond, and Scott (Jill) La Fond, four great-grandchildren, and a sister Carol Dotterwick.
He was preceded in death by his wife Rosalie "Dolly" on October 29, 2006, his parents and his brother James.
The family would like to thank Gundersen Lutheran Care Coordination and Gundersen Lutheran Hospice Program for their wonderful support.
A Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Monday, February 13, 2017, at the Dickinson Family Funeral Home, 1425 Jackson Street, La Crosse. A private family service and burial will be held at a later date.
The family requests that no flowers be sent and memorials are preferred that will be given to organizations that were close to Al's heart.
