Obituary for Wayne T. Siegel

Wayne Thomas “Butch” Siegel, age 89 of La Crosse, Wisconsin passed away on Monday, April 10, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born to Willard and Cora (Turben) Siegel. Following graduation from La Crosse Central high school, Wayne joined the U.S. Army. He was stationed in Germany. On August 21, 1954 Wayne was joined in marriage to Joyce Olson at English Lutheran Church in La Crosse.
Wayne’s career started when he trained in the Army as a draftsman. Upon discharge in 1947, he found work at Allis Chalmers until 1969, and then worked at Norplex, also as a draftsman, from 1969 until retirement in 1986. Aside from his usual job, he was a sign painter in the La Crosse area. Wayne’s pastimes included his love for duck, goose and pheasant hunting. He would be considered a Mississippi river rat, having owned 3 boat houses, and building several boats and having a passion for fishing. He loved horses and dogs, and adored his granddaughters.
Wayne is survived by his daughters; Renee Stolpa of La Crosse, Lisa (Dean) Renk of Holmen, and Heidi (Andrew) Lyga of Bangor, son; Jay Siegel of La Crosse, granddaughters; Amber (Chris) Metcalf, Megan (Jeff) Metcalf, Lexi Renk, Cydney Lyga, and Maria Lyga, great grandson; Scott and a great grandchild on the way.
Wayne was preceded in death by his wife; Joyce, parents, sister; Shirley Facius, and granddaughter; Hallie Renk.
At Wayne’s request, a private family burial will take place at Mormon Coulee Memorial Park in Shelby Township. Friends and family are invited to a gathering to celebrate Wayne’s life at the Moose Club (1932 Ward Avenue, La Crosse) on Thursday, April 13, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
The Dickinson family funeral home is assisting the family with arrangements.
