Shirley Ann Koss, 77, of Holmen, passed away Sunday, April 30, 2017 at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in LaCrosse.
She was born in LaCrosse on November 18, 1939, to Arnold and Arleen (Hendrickson) Johnson. She lived in the Holmen area and graduated from Mindoro High School. On October 25, 1958, Shirley married Donald Koss at Lewis Valley Lutheran Church and proceeded to enjoy over 59 years of married bliss with Don. She spent almost her entire life as a homemaker and mother, maintaining the household while also finding time to garden, attend her children’s (and later grandchildren’s) sporting activities, and being a great cook – including the best lefse and potato salad around! She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, later in life meeting her friends in Mindoro every week for coffee and fellowship.
Shirley was a lifetime member of Lewis Valley Lutheran Church and was the Chairperson of the Funeral Committee for 11 years. She was active as a Sunday School superintendent and teacher, President of the WELCA and coordinating Mission Fest dinners and fall bazaars. Shirley also attended adult bible study sessions, sang in the choir, provided communion to shut-ins and worked in quilting groups. She could always be counted on to bring a food dish to a church event or help someone in need. Shirley touched many lives in the community over the years and will be sorely missed.
Shirley is survived by her husband, Don; three sons, Kevin (Kim) Koss, Brian (Cheryl) Koss and Todd (Josie) Koss; 9 grandchildren, Shawna (Mark) Dale, Nick (Hanna) Koss, Jacob Koss, Jarred Koss, Luke (Gina) Koss, Hannah Koss, Bryan Koss, Courtney Koss, and Taylor Koss; 3 great-grandchildren, Ashtyn, Owen, and Valerie. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 5th at 11:00 a.m. at Lewis Valley Lutheran Church, W5402 County Rd V, Holmen. Pastor Kris Fahey will officiate and burial will be in the Lewis Valley Church Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family on Friday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until time of services.
