Leslie E. Hewines, 82, of Holmen, passed away Friday July 14, 2017 at the Bethany Riverside Care Center. He was born in Canton, Ohio on September 28, 1934 to Leslie and Emma (Snyder) Hewines. He married Loretta Svoboda on June 9, 1956 and later divorced but remained very close friends throughout their lives.
Leslie served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1951-1971, serving in Korea and two tours in Viet-Nam. Retiring after 20 years with the rank of Master Sargent. Leslie was very respected for his military service and remained involved in programs that honored military veterans. He was also so proud to be able to be a part of a Freedom Honor Flight.
Following his retirement from the Marine Corps, Leslie worked at River City Steel as a welder. He absolutely loved to paint and enjoyed woodworking, fishing and coin collecting. He is survived by a special friend, Loretta Mooney, his children; Jay (Sue) Hewines of La Crosse, Tracy (Dale) Sacia of Holmen and Randy (Cheryl Blackstone) Hewines of La Crosse, nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and Frank and Harriet Svoboda who meant the world to him.
