Nadine Alice Hole, 85, of West Salem passed away Friday, July 28, 2017 at Gundersen Medical Center, La Crosse. She was born on September 20, 1931 to Kenneth and Alice (Lord) Wermuth. On September 17, 1953 Nadine married Myron "Mike" Hole, the love of her life, and he preceded her in death in 1989.
During her childhood she was always a tom boy, more interested in sports and, fishing with dad, than playing with dolls. Being there were no girls sports in high school, she went on to play fast-pitch softball with the Zahns Sheet Metal traveling team. She played third base and pitcher.
Nadine graduated from Central High School in 1949. For many years she worked at the Bodega, where she met her future husband. Nadine and Mike lived in La Crosse and French Island. In 1965 they bought a hobby farm in Gills Coulee where they raised their four children.
She began working for the La Crosse County Sheriffs Dept. as one of the first female jailers in 1975. She was later promoted to Jail Sergeant/Administrator until her retirement in 1994.
After retiring she enjoyed fishing, gambling, reading, and watching the Packers and women's sports. She was especially proud and happy to spend time with her kids and grand kids and her best memories were of family gatherings.
Nadine is survived by a daughter, Kathleen (Larry Pehler) Hole of La Crosse; three sons, Greg (Kathy Marco) Hole of West Salem, Tim Hole of Mindoro, and William Hole of West Salem; four grandchildren, Jeremy Hundt, Joshua (Fiance, Jocelyn) Hundt, and Myron and Carl Hole; a great grandchild, Jayda; two sisters, Betty Frybler and Carol (Donald) Jacobson; uncle Dorwin and aunt Doloris, and aunt Harriet; and many special cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends too numerous to mention. She will also be missed by her dog, Ruby and cat, Lucky.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Marlene Berg.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 4, 2017 at Presbyterian Church of West Salem, 625 West Franklin Street. Pastor Larry A. Olson will officiate and burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, La Crosse. A visitation will be held on Thursday at Dickinson Family Funeral Home, 1425 Jackson Street, La Crosse from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. and again at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service.
In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred.
The family would like to thank the staff at Gundersen Lutheran and Bethany St. Joseph Care Center where she resided for the past year and a half for the wonderful care and nurturing they provided. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
