Obituary for Leslie D. Knudtson

Leslie D. Knudtson, 78, of Holmen passed away Sunday, July 30, 2017 at Mulder Health Care Facility, West Salem. He was born in Black River Falls on April 2, 1939 to Burton and Florence (Johnson) Knudtson. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from June 3, 1958 to June 2, 1961. He continued in the Marine Corps Reserves until June 2, 1964. On April 14, 1962 Leslie married Phyllis Halverson and she preceded him in death on September 13, 1980. He then married Barbara Bay on June 30, 1990 and she preceded him in death on March 3, 2015.
Leslie enjoyed gardening, fishing and hunting. He took great pride in keeping his lawn meticulously manicured, and enjoyed watching the birds at his feeders.
Leslie is survived by a son, Michael (Cherie) Knudtson of Holmen; a daughter Lori (David) Stetzer of Bangor; six grandchildren, Matt (Colleen) Jessessky, Corey Jessessky, and Brandon and Kyle Knudtson, Jacob (Megan) Stetzer, Kiley Stetzer (fiance John Patterson); two great grandchildren, Tristan and Izzac Stetzer; two sisters, Betty (Ervin) Dwyer of Onalaska and Ethel Greene of Sparta; and two brothers, Roger (Jean) Knudtson of Onalaska and Wayne (Clarice) Knudtson of Holmen. Two sisters-in-law Carol Knudtson of La Crosse and Betty (Steven) Sacia of Holmen. A brother-in-law Layton Halverson of Holmen. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Leslie is survived by stepchildren Rick (Valerie) Bay, Vicki (Steven) Lange, Carol (Thomas) Bernett, Bonne (Brady) Harding and Frank (Cheryl) Bay and their families.
In addition to his wives, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Beverly Peterson and Diane Gamoke; two brothers, Calvin and Jerry Knudtson and a brother-in-law Roy Gamoke.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 3, 2017 at Holmen Lutheran Church, 228 Morris Street. Pastor Allison Cobb will officiate and burial with Military Honors will be held in Long Coulee Cemetery, rural Holmen. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until time of service.
Memorials may be given to Holmen Lutheran Church or Gundersen Lutheran Medical Foundation for Parkinson's Research.
Leslie's family would like to thank the staff of Bethany Heights Assisted Living, Holmen, and Mulder Health Care Facility, West Salem, for their compassionate care during his time at both facilities.
