Obituary for Merlin R. Paudler

Merlin R. Paudler passed away on Thursday, September 21, 2017, at Gundersen Health System. He was born in La Crosse, WI, on July 4, 1930, to Calvin Sr. and Mary (Starch) Paudler. He graduated from La Crosse Central High School where he particularly enjoyed his woodworking classes. On April 15, 1950, Merlin married M. Gladys Van Loon. They settled in rural Holmen where they raised their five children. Merlin and Gladys enjoyed 39 years of marriage together.
He enjoyed decades of farming with his mother and brother and owned his own mechanics business where he enjoyed repairing vehicles and farm machinery. He later retired as a foreman for the Town of Onalaska.
Merlin is survived by his children, Carolyn Lawrence of Holmen and her children Michelle (Randall) Mulholland and their five children, David Lawrence, Eric (Casey) Lawrence and their two children, Nicole (Jon) Dorn and their four children, and Scott Lawrence; Joan (Michael) Solberg of La Crosse; David (Eileen) Paudler of Onalaska and their children, Heather Paudler, and Jonathan (Rai-Ning) Paudler; Susan Paudler of Onalaska; Maryellen Paudler of West Salem; and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his brother, Calvin Paudler of Onalaska; his sister, Elaine Patterson of Longview, WA; family friends, Debra Lager and Nancy Way; and special friend, Jane Harm.
He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; infant twin brothers, Dwight and Duane; and his son-in-law, Richard Lawrence.
The family invites you to join us for services at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, October 2, 2017, at North Presbyterian Church, 1327 North Salem Road, La Crosse, Pastor Allen Hanson will officiate and burial will be in Greenmound Cemetery, rural Holmen. A visitation will be held from 3:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. on Sunday, October 1, 2017, at Dickinson Family Funeral Home, 401 Main Street, Onalaska, and again at the church on Monday from 10:00 A. M. until time of service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to New Amsterdam Presbyterian Church, N7283 John Street, Holmen, or family wishes.
The family would like to express our gratitude to the staff at Gundersen Health System for their loving care of Merlin and to all of us during his stay.
Merlin’s heartfelt smiles and happy, loving personality will be deeply missed.
