Delores Mary Ann Jacobson, 94, of La Crosse, passed away Monday, September 25, 2017 at the Bethany Riverside Care Center. A midwife brought Delores into this world on March 25, 1923 on the family farm near Canton, MN. Her parents were Charles and Julia (Rasmussen) Ward.
Delores was baptized and confirmed at Henrytown Lutheran Church, and graduated from Canton High School in 1941. She was proud of the fact that she finished 2nd in her class. Delores then went to vocational school in La Crosse, where she studied accounting.
La Crosse Telephone Company was Delores' employer for the next 32 years. She was very thankful in that she felt "the phone company" really cared for it's retired employees. Another fringe benefit was that she met her future husband, Francis (Bud) Jacobson, while employed there. They were married on June 3, 1978 at Asbury United Methodist Church.
Delores also worked at Lutheran Hospital in the Central Supply Department from 1978-1985, where she retired at the age of 62.
Among Delores' hobbies were gardening, cooking and baking. She loved to entertain, and was also quite crafty. She really enjoyed knitting and crocheting. Delores was a long-time member of Asbury (Faith) Methodist Church. Other memberships included American Legion Post 52 Auxiliary, Local IBEW and AARP.
Delores is survived by her niece, Bonnie Speltz (Leroy Heltne) of Winona, Mn, great niece Bobbie Jean Tanberg of Downy, CA, great nephew Bruce Tanberg Jr. of Rochester, MN and special friends Joan Halverson and Terry Thomas of La Crosse, WI. She would like to thank Terry and Joan for all of their care and help over the years. Delores also wants to thank Mayo's Dr. Rushlow for the many years of wonderful care he provided to her and her husband Bud.
Preceding Delores in death were her parents, her husband of 25 years, Bud and her sister and brother-in-law, Donna and Jim Potts.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 3rd at 11:00 a.m. at the Dickinson Family Funeral Home, 1425 Jackson Street. Pastor Scott Skogen will officiate and burial will be in the Prosper Cemetery in Canton, MN. A visitation will be held on Tuesday at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until time of services.
Memorials received will be given to the Prosper Cemetery Fund in Delores's name.
Terry and Joan would like to thank the staff at Hearten House 2 and Bethany Riverside for their wonderful and compassionate care Delores received over the last 9 months.
