Margaret ‘Peggy’ Lorraine Beito, 98, passed away with family by her side on November 15th, 2017 at Hillview Nursing Home in La Crosse.
She was born on December 15th, 1918 in Decorah, Iowa, to Teresa and Henry Kornmeyer. She married Mel Beito and had one daughter, Margo (Kramer). They later moved to Minneapolis for some time, then moved to La Crosse. Peggy worked at Arentz Shoe Store for a number of years. Later in life, she also worked at a jewelry store and at Ranison’s Ice Cream. Peggy loved to dance and would go to the Avalon Ballroom frequently. She enjoyed embroidering, bowling, being outside, and going for walks.
When she moved into Hillview Nursing Home, Peggy spent time doing puzzles, reading, going to exercise class, and attending church service. Peggy attended many of the Springtime Proms held at Hillview, where she danced and enjoyed the music with her family.
Peggy enjoyed spending time with her two granddaughters, Marie (Kevin) MacGlashin and Jill (Ben) Troyanek. She also adored her four great-grandchildren, Ireland, Cullen, Waylon, and Garrison, who adored her just as much. As a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she was a sweet and loving woman who knew how to make us all smile. She truly cared for her family and those she met. Instead of a ‘goodbye,’ it was always ‘Get home safe.’
Peggy is preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Joe, Leonard, Rita, and Delia, and survived by many nieces and nephews.
Her family would like to send sincere thanks to the staff at Hillview for their wonderful care and compassion.
98 years still isn’t long enough! You will forever be in our hearts and memories, Grandma Peggy!
