Kyle Joseph Bertelsen , 47, formerly of Holmen, passed away in New York City on January 2, 2018 from natural causes.
He was born on May 25, 1970 in La Crosse WI. Kyle was the second of three sons born to Ronald and Janet Bertelsen. He attended grade school at St. Patrick's Catholic School in Onalaska, Wi and graduated from Holmen High School in 1988. He attended UWL-La Crosse for 2 years. He said he took only the classes he needed to learn what he didn't already know and that was enough.
His first job was at the La Crosse Tribune as a graphic artist, later becoming their first Web Designer. Moving to Washington D.C. he worked as a Web Designer for United Press International. At the time of his death he was the Principle Software Engineer for the American Kennel Club at their Corporate Office in New York. He also had his own freelance business, "Thistledown Development Group" where he was working on the website for NASA as well as other contracts.
Kyle was a gifted artist and had many of his drawings published in the La Crosse area. He designed the "Catbird's Season Preview Cover” in 1993 and the Mardi Gras Logo for Catholic Schools in La Crosse. He was a private person to most, intensely loyal to family and friends always willing to help anyone in need. He was very happy with his job at AKC and was truly at home there with his second family. We will be forever grateful for the care and compassion shown to our family by his colleagues since his death.
Kyle is survived by his parents, brothers; Wade (Carol) of Taylor and Brenner of Holmen and step-daughter, Kira Sobiech of Dallas, Tx. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews, cousins, friends and his dog "Olive" whom he loved so very much.
Kyle was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Robert and Irene Schaller and his paternal grandparents Knute and Ethel Bertelsen.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 12, at St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church in Holmen with Revs. Robert Schaller, John Parr and Delbert Malin officiating. Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Thursday from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. at the church and again from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass Friday. A prayer service will take place at the beginning of the Thursday evening visitation. A private family committal service will take place later at Greenmound Cemetery in Holmen.
