Obituary for Dolores A. Gustafson

Dolores A. Gustafson, 87, of Onalaska passed away on Thursday, January 11, 2018 at Onalaska Care Center. She was born in Watertown, S.D. on February 2, 1930 to Bernard and Daisy (Kopp) Hurd. She graduated from Watertown Senior High in 1947 and then worked in the accounting department of Swift and Company until she married Glen Gustafson on July 21, 1950.
Dolores and Glen were married 48 years and while she spent most of her time raising their 8 children she also had many interests and hobbies. Dolores was a member of the Wahpeton VFW Ladies Auxiliary and was a member of the Catholic Ladies Circle, St. John’s Catholic Church, Wahpeton, ND. She also volunteered for Meals on Wheels and for Friends of the Library. Dolores was avid reader when she found some quiet time. Her other hobbies included: needle work (including crochet, cross stich and sewing), playing cards and bowling with friends. She was a very talented seamstress and loved designing and sewing clothes for herself and her 5 daughters. Dolores also worked at the North Dakota State School of Science Food Service Department for several years after her youngest children were in school.
Dolores will be greatly missed by her 8 surviving children: five daughters, Amelia Sue (David) Meyer of Holmen, Glenda (Barry) Berg of Apple Valley, MN., Marilyn (Lee) Jergenson of Lincoln, NE., Marlene (Tom) Teske of Scranton, N.D., and Andrea (John) Westphall of Waskish, MN.; three sons, Martin (Shelley) Gustafson of Kasson, MN., Arthur (Ann) Gustafson of Avon, IN., and John Gustafson of Benton Harbor, MI.; twenty-four grandchildren; and twenty-six great grandchildren.
Dolores was preceded in death by her husband Glen Gustafson; her parents Bernard and Daisy Hurd; her brother, Donald Hurd; and a half sister, Phyllis Warren.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the very special and loving care provided by Springbrook Assisted Living in Onalaska and the Onalaska Care Center in Onalaska, WI.
Visitation will be held on Monday, January 15, 2018 at Dickinson Family Funeral Home, 515 McHugh Road, Holmen from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. with a prayer service starting at 4:00 p.m.
A visitation will also be held at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 515 North Main Street, Holmen, WI on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 16, 2018, the Reverend John Parr will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Watertown, SD at a future date.
