Obituary for Robert Solberg

Robert "Bob" L. Solberg, 95, of Holmen passed away Thursday, January 18, 2018 at Bethany Riverside Nursing Facility. He was born on June 27, 1922 to Even “Ed” and Laura (Casberg) Solberg. Bob graduated from Holmen High School in 1941 where he pitched a perfect baseball game in his senior year. He attended Luther College and upon the start of WWII enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corp and served in various locations in the South Pacific until the war ended. Upon returning from the war he went back to Luther College. On April 15, 1951 Bob married Helen Larson and she preceded him in death on October 9, 1992.
Bob was in the feed mill business for 25 years before retiring in 1976. Later in life he volunteered at the Bethany Hearten House III for 15 years. He served on the Holmen Village Board; was a lifelong member of Holmen Lutheran Church; a charter member of Holmen Lions Club; and a life member of the Holmen American Legion. Bob enjoyed his trips to northern Wisconsin with family and friends and especially the Walls and Gilbergs.
Bob is survived by two sons, Eric (Roberta) Solberg of Watertown, WI and Paul (Dorothy) Solberg of Houston, MN; four grandchildren, Friend (Michelle) Solberg, Nicholas, Aaron and Jennifer (Isaac Jimenez) Solberg; and a great granddaughter, Jayden Solberg. He is further survived by many nieces and nephews who he held dear to his heart.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Edna Tabbert, Gretchen Thomas, and Wilda Blair; three brothers, Carl, Milton, and Roy Solberg; three sisters-in-law, Eileen Register, Loraine McFarland, Charlotte Hauser; and two brothers-in-law, Leonard and Robert Larson.
The Solberg family is grateful for the caring staff and all his friends at Bethany Riverside.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 29, 2018 at Holmen Lutheran Church, 228 Morris Street. Pastor Matt Toso will officiate and burial will be in Long Coulee Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until time of service.
The Dickinson Family Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Holmen Lutheran Church or Long Coulee Cemetery Association.
