Jean Biddick passed away peacefully in her home on Saturday afternoon February 24, 2018.
She was born Jean Audrey Bass on August 18, 1935 in Rewey, Wisconsin to Guy and Florence (Austin) Bass. She lived most of her childhood in Belmont Wisconsin and graduated from Belmont High School in 1953. She married the love of her life Edward Biddick on November 2, 1957. They moved to La Crosse in 1958 when Ed graduated from college. In her long full life, she was a sister, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother and great grandmother, neighbor and loving friend to so many; a Linotype machine operator, switchboard operator, medical billing clerk, usher, and bailiff; Cub Scout Den mother, Red Cross volunteer, Mobile Meals delivery driver, Monday Meals cook, handbell ringer, and Oktoberfest volunteer. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, canning, sewing, crafting, ceramics, card-playing, gambling, traveling, boating, fishing, and motor homing. The most telling artwork on her dining room wall reads,”My favorite people call me Grandma.” Her greatest joy in life was her relationship with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also loved and nurtured many children who were not her own.
Jean was a life-long Methodist and a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in La Crosse for 58 years. She had a kind and generous spirit, and was also hilarious until the very end. She will be sorely missed by everyone whose life she touched.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, son Robert (Linda) Biddick of Niceville, Florida, daughter Lynn Biddick (David Blackey) of La Crosse, daughter Debra Prigge (Bill Knobloch)of La Crosse; grandchildren Christopher (Jennifer) Biddick of Sumter SC and Michael Biddick (Diedre Peroff) of Bayside WI, Karlene (Billy) Mellem, Allyson (Josh Jensen) Becker of Owatonna MN, Joseph Becker (Miranda Greeno) of La Crosse, Mikayla Brown, great grandchildren Emily and Evan Biddick, Grayson Mellem, and Graham Jensen; sister-in-law Doris Bass of Wisconsin Dells WI, and her beloved Sheltie, Cindy. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Gerald, sister Nancy, and infant son John.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday morning March 10 at Wesley United Methodist in La Crosse, 715 King Street at 11 AM. Visitation will be held at Dickinson Funeral Home at 1425 Jackson Street in La Crosse on Friday evening March 9 from 5-7 PM, and on Saturday morning at the church from 10 AM until time of service.
