Daniel Haines, 86, of Onalaska passed away Thursday, March 15, 2018 at Onalaska Care Center. He was born November 13, 1931 to Christ and Pelchie (Waldera) Haines. He graduated from Arcadia High School and worked at the Arcadia Creamery, State of Wisconsin as a Driver’s License Examiner, and WWTI. He married Elaine Wagner in Winona, MN. on September 17, 1955 and they celebrated 58 years of matrimony.
He was very proud of his children and his involvement in the National Guard, Knights of Columbus, and American Legion. He enjoyed attending family functions, fishing with the Wagners, gardening, traveling, and spending winter in Destin, FL. His grandchildren will remember adventures with him, such as riding through bluff country to harvest his favorite watercress patch. He was the type of person who was always on the go. The greatest gift he provided his family was his unparalleled work ethic, sense of frugality, and punctuality. Daniel was an extremely loving and devoted husband to his wife Elaine, who he dearly cared for, especially during her final years.
Daniel is survived by his children, Pat Ruud (Marty Herrick), Danell Haines (Ron Henricks), Sandra Kriz, Susan Haines, Nancy (Brad) Sprang, and Steven Haines. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Erika Ruud (Scott Hand), Peter Ruud (Emily), Kristen Ruud, Quinten Henricks, Alyson and Sophia Kriz, Johanna Christianson (Alex), and Joshua, Bryan, and Derek Sprang; and one great grandson, Jack Christianson. In addition, he is survived by his brother, David (Kay) Haines; and in-laws, Irvin Wagner and Irene Schuh.
He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; and great granddaughter, Eleanor Ruud.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, March 23, 2018 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 1031 Main Street, Onalaska. Monsignor Delbert Malin will officiate and burial with Military Honors will be in Onalaska Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until time of service.
