Joan Sylvia Solum, 89, of La Crescent, MN, passed away on Monday, September 17, 2018, at the Valley View Nursing Home in Houston, MN. She was born June 7, 1929, in Winona, MN.
She was past secretary to the La Crosse Flyers Club, served on the Dresbach Township Board for 34 years, and was a member of the Winona County Sheriff’s Advisory Board. She enjoyed reading and was a published author. Joan was a military Veteran.
Her unwavering passion in life was her belief in the Lord and, secondly, to her husband and family. She enjoyed life fully and appreciated all of God’s blessings given to her and His steadfast help in times of need.
Joan loved traveling; each trip was an adventure in the making. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, painting and making items. She never met anyone in life who was in distress that she didn’t try to help.
She is survived by two sons Andre (Kathy) Solum and Leif Solum; daughter-in-law Cheryl Winchester; grandchildren, Kelsey (Spenser) Williamson, Daniel Solum, Alex Solum, Nick Solum, Ben (Tara) Winchester and Beth Winchester; and two great grandchildren, Calvin and Truman Winchester. She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Solum, a daughter and two sons.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 21st at Noon at the Dickinson Family Funeral Home, 1425 Jackson Street, La Crosse, WI. Pastor Mark Clements will officiate and burial will be in the Mormon Coulee Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family on Friday at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until time of service.
