Robert William Linse, age 88, died on October 29, 2018, at Clare Bridge at Brookdale Senior living in La Crosse, Wisconsin. He was born in La Crosse on August 4, 1930, as the only child of Reinhold and Helen (Fried) Linse. Robert graduated from Central High School and then went on to receive both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Wisconsin system. Bob’s career centered around teaching French at Washington and Lee High School in Arlington, Virginia. After his retirement, he stayed in Arlington for many years until returning to La Crosse in August of this year. Bob lived a singular life and had a small number of friends that he made by attending concerts and sporting events such as soccer and baseball. One of his major interests was the National Zoo in Washington, D.C., where he volunteered on a regular basis. He was featured on national television once while he was working at the zoo, explaining how to observe and track behaviors of golden lion tamarinds. His cousin, Bill Temte, was a close friend for his entire life. He visited Bob three to five times a year, staying in his apartment and later, his condo. Bob was very involved in, and thoroughly enjoyed attending, a variety of performing arts opportunities in the Washington, DC, area. When Bill visited, they would frequently attend plays, concerts, art exhibits, and visit the National Zoo. Robert is survived by a special cousin, William (Louise) Temte, other cousins, and a few friends from his life in Arlington. Since his stroke in 2016 his care was coordinated by his neighbor, Joe Trincellito of Arlington, who took Bob to countless appointments and was his special friend. Bob asked to be brought back to La Crosse for his final days and was graciously accepted at the Brookdale Senior Living Clare Bridge facility. His wish of spending his final days in La Crosse was accomplished. The family wishes to thank Gundersen Hospice and the staff at Clare Bridge for their compassionate care of Bob. A private remembrance service will be scheduled later in November. A private interment will take place at Oak Grove Cemetery in La Crosse. The Dickinson family funeral home is assisting the family with arrangements. Please visit www.dickinsonfuneralhomes.com to share online condolences.
