Delenor M. Pohl, 98, of Mill Street Manor in West Salem, WI, went to be with our Lord and Savior on November 9, 2018 after a bout with cancer. Delenor was born in Coldwater, IA on August 16, 1920 to Samuel and Gladys (Lee) Cassel. She attended grade school in Hokah, MN and graduated from Mar-Mac High School in Marquette, IA. She worked at a hotel restaurant in McGregor, IA where she met her husband of 45 years, Milo Pohl. They were married on April 4, 1940 and lived in Marquette for two years until they moved to Onalaska, Wisconsin. In 1953, Delenor and Milo became members of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church of Onalaska, WI and were active with the church. Dellie worked at the La Crosse Rubber Mills from 1957 until she retired 28 years later. In the early 1980s, they moved to Holmen and joined the Lewis Valley Lutheran Church and became longtime members.
In the early 1990s, Dellie joined a line dancing group called the Boot Scootin’ Grannies and one day danced on the Mel Tellis Show in Branson, MO. Dellie was a very avid card player who cherished her time with many friends and family members. Dellie was known for being a good cook and baked the best sugar cookies that could not be topped or replicated. Everyone remembers Dellie as being gentle, sweet, humble, loving and always good to people with a heart like Jesus. We will miss her sweet smile too.
Delenor was preceded in death by her husband Milo, infant daughter Lana Jane, her son William Pohl, her great grand-daughter Sara Rose Hougom, brother Merlyn Cassel, sisters Betty Kleinschmidt and Madonna Martin. She is survived by her daughter Carol (Art) Selhorn, of Alamo, TX and daughter-in-law Lucille Pohl of Ettrick, WI. She is further survived by seven grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 15 at the Dickinson Family Funeral Home at 401 Main Street, Onalaska, WI from 5:00 to 7:00pm. The funeral service will be held at Lewis Valley Lutheran Church, W5402 County Highway T, Holmen, WI. Viewing at 10:00am and service at 11:00AM. Burial will be in the church cemetery. A lunch will follow after the service there.
A special thank you to all the wonderful care givers who provided the best for Dellie during her last years and the final days of her life.
