John O. Severtson "Johnny Honda", 42, passed away at Gundersen Health System on Wednesday, November 21, 2018 surrounded by loved ones. For the past week he was fighting for his life and eventually succumbed to the injuries sustained in a car accident.
John was born to Gwen I. Barbour and John M. Severtson in La Crosse, WI on October 25, 1976. He attended schools in La Crosse and Edgerton, WI. John was a man of many hats and found his wealth in love and friendship. His smile was infectious and he was gifted in making others smile through his wonderful sense of humor. One of his greatest passions was racing. He is the all time wins leader in the Hornet Division at Mississippi Thunder Speedway. John recently fullfilled his dream and raced his final race series at Road America with teammates Kam, Les and Brandon. He also enjoyed charter fishing, live music, being on the river, and going to Viking football games with his dad and son.
John is survived by his mother, Gwen Barbour; father, John Severtson; children, Aria (Tyler Skidmore) Stone, Ian (Olivia Hart) Severtson and Chloe Wescott; grandchild, Aurora Skidmore; maternal grandmother, Evelyn Metcalf; sibilings, Matt (Nicole) Barbour, Katie (Mike) Rutenbar and Abbey Hammes; neices, Elsie and Charlie; nephews, Henry and Emmett; along with many aunts, uncles, and cousins. John is also survived by special friends including Ben, Annie and Kyla, Sue and Vern, Scott, Nate, Kenny, Derrick, Kathy, Jordan, Andrew, Ryan, and Jamie.
John was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Oscar and Katherine Severtson; maternal grandpa, Red Metcalf; and uncle, Roy Severtson.
John, you will be greatly missed by so many. You have made it to your final finish line, driving straight into heaven. The checkered flag has been won, Johnny Honda!
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 28th at 7:00 p.m. at the Dickinson Family Funeral Home, 515 McHugh Road, Holmen. Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. until time of services. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred and will be directed to an educational trust for his children.
