Obituary for Alice M. Knutson

Alice "Ellie" M. Knutson, 80, of La Crosse, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend passed away peacefully Wednesday, December 26, 2018 at Mayo Clinic Health Care, La Crosse. She was born on February 2, 1938 to Fredrick and Violet (Will) Rogowski. On July 7, 1956 Ellie married the love of her life and wind beneath her wings, Gary Knutson, who preceded her in death on April 19, 2000.
Ellie graduated from Logan High School in 1956. She enjoyed working at Gentle Family Dentistry and the La Crosse Center. She took pleasure in bowling, Jazzercise, taking drives with her brother Butch, visiting Riverside Park, eating ice cream, shopping, and watching her grandchildren play sports.
Ellie is survived by her children Mary E. Knutson of La Crosse, Steve (Mary L.) Knutson of La Crosse, Jayne Baldwin of Tomah, Vicki (Steve) Zanter of Viroqua, and Shelly (Oliver) Downer of Minneapolis; twelve grandchildren, Dan and Dave Knutson, Alicia (John Richards) Skiles, Alex (Leah Bolin) Knutson, Abby Knutson, Amy and Andy Baldwin, Ashley (Matthew) Lehmann, Ryan and Matt Zanter, and Zach and Nick Schmidt; five great-grandchildren, Nolan and Perrin Richards, Jackson, Parker, and Zoey Lehmann; two sisters, Rosie (Wayne) Dahl of Cashton and Ronnie (Doug) Dickman of Prairie du Chien; and two brothers, Butch (Erna) Rogowski and John (Carol) Rogowski, both of La Crosse; sister-in-law Kay (Roger) Pralle of Holmen and brother-in-law Eric (Pam) Knutson of Fayetteville, NC. Ellie will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; newborn son Joey; three sisters, Rita Mathis, Darlene Dent, and Sue Hutchison; sister-in-law Lois Schams and her husband Vincent.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 29, 2018 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 1031 Main Street, Onalaska. Father Kyle Laylan will officiate and burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, La Crosse. A visitation will be held from 8:30 a.m. until time of service. The burial will be followed by fellowship and lunch at St. Pat’s.
