Obituary for Lois E. Hanson

Lois Ellen Hanson, 77, of Holmen, WI passed away Sunday, May 5th at the Mayo Clinic Health System in LaCrosse. She was born on April 15th, 1942 in La Crosse to Theron and Esther (Zemlo) Phelps. She graduated from Aquinas High School in 1960. She went to school in Rochester for nursing, working at St. Francis (Mayo) in La Crosse, and several nursing homes in the La Crosse area. She married Gerald Edgar Hanson on November 10th, 1962 at St. James Church in La Crosse, WI, and remained married for 57 years. They moved to Port Washington, started a family, and got into camping where they camped almost every weekend. Later moving back to La Crosse County north of Holmen where they built a log home. Lois was very creative, taking ceramic classes, making homemade clothing, crocheting, stainglass, needlepoint, painting, and enjoyed arts and crafts throughout her life. She was a very giving person always thinking of others and trying to help her children and grandchildren in any way she could.
She is survived by her husband, Gerald; her four sons Scott of Holmen, Mark (Janette) of Onalaska, Todd (Colette) of Bangor, Chad (Rachel) of LaCrosse. She is further survived by her five grandchildren Barrett, Carter, Zach (Alicia), Breanna (Paul), Alainna, and her four great-grandchildren Azalia, Francis, Eilam, and Vincent. She is also survived by her siblings Joan Leitz of La Crosse, Evelyn Wilhelm of La Crosse, Helen Phelps of La Crosse, Judith Jenson of Minneapolis, and Mary (Rich) Viner of La Crosse.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, John Phelps.
A memorial mass will be held on Friday, May 10th at 11:00 A.M., at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, Holmen. Family and friends may visit with the family before hand from 10:00 A.M. until time of services.
Memorials will be donated to the Holmen Area Food Pantry at St. Elizabeth church.
