Richard DeVoe Low, 96 died Thurs, June 20, 2019 at Homestead of Anoka, MN. Dick was born March 12, 1923 in LaCrosse, WI the son of Roy S. and Opal DeVoe Stoops Low. Dick lived in LaCrosse, WI and Minneapolis, MN. He graduated from LaCrosse Central High School in 1940. He served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1946 in the Signal Corps & then as a radar tech. After his discharge, he attended Marquette U, obtaining a degree in dentistry in 1950. He set up a children’s and family dental practice in St. Louis Park and Bloomington, MN, retiring in 1983. Dick was a member of the Minneapolis Dental Society. He was ham radio operator K0/ JYB for over 55 years. He was a Rotarian for over 50 years in St. Louis Park, Bloomington, & Onalaska, WI. Dick married Elise Virginia Perkins on Aug 23rd, 1947. He was a devoted & loving husband, father, grandfather & great grandfather. Dick was an advocate of lifelong learning. He taught his kids mechanical skills & other “scientific things.” He was an avid photographer. He took Spanish when he was 85 and was taking keyboard lessons when he passed. He also played the drums, guitar, uke, banjo & harmonica. Survivors include children: Patti Low of Oakdale, MN and Jerry (Susan Hanson) Low of Maple Grove, MN; grandchildren, Luke Weimer, Sara and Brianna Low, and Nick (Erin Ottinger) Low; great grandchildren, Greyson and Laura, plus adult stepchildren and step grandchildren. Dr. Low was preceded in death by his wife, Elise Virginia Perkins, 1977; his parents, Opal DeVoe Stoops Low, 1977 & Roy Low, 1983; his sister Ruby Zein, 1993; his son Dr. Robert Low, 2007; and his second wife, Jane Aitkin Skogen Low, from 1979-2004. A Celebration of Life for Dick will be held on Sat, Sept. 21, 2019 at the American Legion, 260 4th Ave SE, Osseo, MN from 10 AM to 1 PM. Should family and friends desire, memorials can be made to a charity of their choice.
