Obituary for Galen E. Turner

Galen E. Turner, 89, of West Salem entered Heaven on Wednesday, July 31, 2019. He was born in Oneida, KS. on April 13, 1930 to John Addison and Eva Lora (Satterlee) Turner. On October 13, 1951 Galen married Joanne Hesse and they celebrated 68 years of marriage. Galen was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1952 serving as a tank commander and was honorably discharged in 1954. From 1954 until 1956 he went to the Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis to receive his formal training in the field of HVAC. From 1956 until 1962 he was a service technician for Cary Heating and Air Conditioning. In 1962 he started a 24 year career with the Trane Company serving as a researcher thru 1986. He finished his HVAC career as a service technician with Schneider Heating and Air Conditioning in 1992. He retired to his hobby farm in West Salem, Wisconsin
Galen a great man of faith, a member of Bethany Evangelical Free Church in La Crosse, WI, was also an outdoor enthusiast enjoying all activities that he could. Handball, racquetball and tennis were especially his favorite sports. He was a great dancer, card player (especially bridge), and a Jack-of-all-trades in any area you can think of. But his greatest love and accomplishments was being a magnificent husband, father, grand-father and great grandfather.
Galen is survived by his loving wife, Joanne; a daughter, Sue (Marc) Anderson of West Salem; three sons, Bradley (Nancy) Turner of Buckeye, AZ, Wade (Trina) Turner of Onalaska, and Paul (Cindy) Turner of Woodland, MN.; a daughter-in-law, Anita Turner of Mahtomedi, MN.; 13 grandchildren, Elisha Turner, Rory (Amber) Turner, Ross (Amy) Turner, Case Turner, Guy (Kelsey) Turner, Ryan (Alicia) Turner, Paige (David) Laughlin, Sarah Turner, Matthew Turner, Robert (Bethanie) Anderson, Heather (Matt) Garbers, Michael Anderson, and Laura Anderson; and 17 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Gregg E Turner; and four brothers.
A memorial visitation will be held from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Friday, August 16, 2019 at Dickinson Family Funeral Home & Crematory, 401 Main Street, Onalaska, WI. A “Celebration of Life” at the farm for friends and family that loved Galen and Joanne and their family will take place on Saturday, August 17, from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Location is at W4189 Weise Road in West Salem, WI. 54669.
