Arthur “Art” C. Coady, 75, of Holmen, passed away peacefully at home, Friday, August 16, 2019. He was born October 25, 1943, in La Crosse, WI, to Arthur and Dorothy (Matl) Coady.
Art was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a voracious reader, especially W.E.B. Griffin novels. He loved watching westerns, crime and historical/military programs, playing cards with friends, and cheering on the Green Bay Packers. He was a “jack of all trades,” during his lifetime—serving in the U.S. Navy, working in roofing/siding, building maintenance, and over-the-road trucking.
Art is best known for his time on the Black River, at the Copeland Boat Stop, which he owned and operated, with his wife, Hazel. They were married on April 13, 1996, surrounded by family and friends. During their nearly 40 years, together, they weathered highs and lows, and forged life-long memories.
Art is survived by his wife, Hazel; children, Sarah (Gary) Nickelatti and Douglas Coady; stepchildren, Kathy Duerwachter and Thomas Helgerson; sisters, Leslie (Greg) Brown and Cheryl (Dennis) Grimslid; brothers, Stanley Jr., George, and Kevin (Karen) Arnold, Steve (Theresa) and Charles (Marie) Coady; and many other extended family members and friends.
Art was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Marcia Westfaul and Diane Loomis; brothers, William “Bill” Coady, Sr., Barry and Doug Kurtz; and son-in-law, Alan Duerwachter.
A memorial gathering with be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday, August 22, 2019, at the Dickinson Family Funeral Home, Holmen. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred. Per Art’s wishes, we will have a “party on him,” at a later date.
Art’s family would like to thank the Gundersen Hospice staff for their amazing care and support given to both Art and Hazel, during his illness.
