Michael C. Tierney, 43, of La Crosse passed away Saturday, August 31, 2019. He was born on August 19, 1976 to Pat and Cindy (Schwartzhoff) Tierney. He attended Aquinas High School, graduating in 1994.
Mike was charismatic from the start; his energy and contagious laugh becoming defining points of his personality we will all remember. Fiercely competitive and fiercely loyal, Mike grew up playing with and challenging his little brothers. As adults this grew into many hours discussing sports strategies, with many great memories made at Packers and Brewers games. He made sure to pass on his love of the Cubs to his nephew, Ivan.
In recent years Mike found enjoyment gardening, watching sports with his parents, and spending time with his niece and nephew, often times playing baseball with his nephew and watching cooking shows with his niece. His time spent watching cooking shows evolved into him baking and trying new things but Mike never wavered on what he liked to eat the most – pizza.
Mike is survived by his parents, Pat and Cindy Tierney; two brothers, Mark (Esti) Tierney of Onalaska and Greg Tierney of La Crosse; a niece and nephew, Reese and Ivan Tierney; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Thomas Tierney and Joseph and Mary Gavin; and maternal grandparents, Jack and Dorothy Schwartzhoff.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 6, 2019 at Mary Mother of the Church Parish, 2006 Weston Street, La Crosse. Fr. Brian Konopa will officiate and burial will be in St. Mary's Church Cemetery, Hanover, IA. at a later date.
